Santo da Serra Golf Overview

Santo da Serra Golf Course is a 27 hole course located on the Island of Madeira. British families over the centuries have settled Madeira to settle and its natural that they have introduced to the Island one of their favourite sports. In 1937 Clube de Golfe Santo da Serra was born with a 9 hole course which later encouraged the locals to construct in 1991 a 18 hole course designed by Trent Jones. This course was added to by further 9 holes in 1998 known as the Serra Course. The Santo da Serra Course has been the host to the European Tour Madeira Open for many years.

These three 9 hole circuits are named the Machico which is 3.014 metres, the Desertas which is 3,078 metres and the Serras which is 2,911 metres. With its high location at an altitude of 500 metres the views for the golfers are extremely panoramic. The course overall is very demanding land the fourth hole of a Par 3 is 185 metres and played over a deep inviting ravine. The player can also be subject to variable winds that can play havoc with the score on any hole.
